A couple of entries ago I mentioned how GI Joe merchandise had went from practically non-existant to overload seemingly overnight, I guess that's what happens when a movie is opening in a few weeks. One of the new offerings is the GI Joe line of Kre-Os, Hasbro's 2nd attempt to get some Lego-type bucks (Remember Build to Rule?). So far these have been a lot of fun, and thatnk's to the Toys R Us BOGO sale, I now have all but 2 of the sets. Saturday night I rolled up my sleeves and cracked open the box to this wave's biggest set: Battle Platform Attack.
Based on the Tactical Battle Platform playset, this baby comes loaded with all sorts of vehicles: a Cobra Flight Pod, FANG Coptor, and a GI Joe RAM Cycle, as well as a jail cell to throw Cobra Commander's worthless hide into. Manning the Battle Platform are Duke and Roadblock, and in addition to the Commander 2 more Cobra Troops are thrown in for good measure.
Right away, one of the first things I liked about these setsis the box. The box is designed so that it opens into a tray to hold the pieces until you need them. Nothing is more frustrating than having all of those little pieces roll all over the place and get lost, thankfully that isn't the case here.
I started on the vehicles first, and after 1/2 of work, I had these ready to go:
After finishing the FANG and the jail cell, I moved onto the Battle Platform itself. All fo the pieces fit together nicely, and they looked and felt no different than Legos. Fast forward a couple of hours later and everything was build, ready to engage in the neverending battle of GI Joe vs Cobra:
My favorite thing about this set? on the base of the Battle Platform in a little work area, complete with tools and work bench to store them. Right next to this work area is a mini fridge stocked with two cans of Joe Cola. Evidently battling Cobra is thirsty work.
Kre-Os are a lot of fun and are great for any GI Joe fan. My son and I had a blast putting them together, and look forward to getting more sets (Except for the ninja ones, we hate ninjas!).
